Life Isn’t Only About Girlfriend

Early evening on Friday, when the people usually spend their quality time with their family, I felt that it was one of the worst days in Purwokerto. “Ya…” I could say that, because when all of my friends in my boarding house spent quality time with their girlfriends, but I was the only one who did not spend the time with a girl. Everybody knows that I do not have a girlfriend, and it felt so lonely. 

At 04.30 pm, I, Budi, Bagus and Gilang watched TV in the living room. I and my friends laughed together when the program that we watched showing funny things. “Ya…..” we have a favorite program that makes us happy every evening. That is RCTI. I think all people who love soap opera recognize this program, because it is so phenomenal.

“What is it?” “Is it TOP”? (Tukang Ojek Pangkalan)
“Yaaaas…. TOP is one of the programs that we often watch in my boarding house” 
“usually we watched it to wait magrib pray after we took a shower.”

The warm atmosphere was suddenly gone, because when I and my friends laughed together, our laughing and joke just stopped when their girlfriends came.

Bagus’s girlfriend came first, her name is Nisa. Nisa often comes here by herself or picked up by Bagus. “Please…! Do not think bad things about us. They came just to talk or have a meal”. 

Nisa knocked the door and saying greeting "asalamualaikum" That is greetings on Muslim when we meet the other Muslim. Then, all of us answered “walaikumsalam”. “Hay…” Nisa Said. After that, Bagus and his girlfriend moved to his bedroom. I did not know what they did.

Well, it’s okay that Bagus left me, because Budi and Gilang were still there for me, although I already knew that Budi’s and Gilang’s girlfriend would come here too. Then, I was very disappointed when Efri and Asha who are Budi’s and Gilang’s girlfriends came. For your information, they came together, because both of them are close friends. As Nisa did when she came, Asha and Efri also said greeting and all of us answered their greetings, and after that, they joined us. However, they did not watch TV, but they just talked about their relationships. They stayed in the living room for only 5 minutes, and then they went to their bedrooms.  In that time, everything felt so hard for me, and I felt like that I had no friends anymore. That was how my bad day started. 

Living room that we used to laugh together, was empty, and there was just me thinking about how hard my life was. Because of the living room is in the center of the house, it made me heard what all of my friends talked about with their girlfriends. They were happy, and their laughs could be heard. In my heart, I said, “When God would give me girlfriend?” I was furious for what happened to me, and life felt so unfair. “Am I too ugly to have a girlfriend?” I was just envy to see all of friends with their girls. Then, I went to bathroom because it was the time for magrhib pray, so I took wudhu,and after that I went to bedroom to do maghrib pray. 

I prayed to God, “Oh my God! I’m begging You for giving me a woman as your promise that every people will get their soul mate. When? When? When does she come to me? I know you are the fairest, and I know you are the wisest. Nevertheless, it feels never fair to me, before you give me the girl.” After, all of my tears gone, I just sat in my room, and felt a little bit better. After that, I had an idea that I would go to Sule’s boarding house and hoped that I would get more happiness, because Sule is my best friend in this city, so I thought that Sule would have time with me. Without any consideration, I sent a message to Sule via BBM. 

“Sule…! Are you in your boarding house? I need a friend to talk to right now.” However, Sule did not reply my message immediately. He replied my message 30 minutes later. 

“I am on boarding house but I am with Safira now, you may come here after 07.00 p.m.”

“Yups… No problem my friend.” 

After Sule replied my message, I did not know what I would do. I only thought, “Why did my best friend also not have time for me? Is it a punishment from God or what??? Oh my God! Please give a solution to this problem”. Because I felt jealous, so I played game with my smartphone but it was just 5 minutes. Then, I thought that I just went out from this boarding house and I decided to go to XL center to upgrade my SIM card, because my SIM Card was not able to use 4G network.

Then, I decided to go to XL center with my bike. My bike is not that good, but I l love it so much. It only took about 10 minutes to go to XL center, because it is not too far from my boarding house. In XL center, there was a queue to get the customer service, so I waited for some minutes.

Waiting in that place was very boring and stressing for me. However, when I got no queue, I was amazed, because the customer service officer was a very beautiful woman. I was speechless, and I sat there looking at her eyes. Those eyes were the most beautiful eyes, and the way she talked to me was like the sweetest sugar I have ever tasted. She explained to me about upgrading stuffs for just about 30 minutes, but it felt like days for me. I was really delighted, and the gorgeous customer service officer healed my pain for a while.

After that, I decided to buy some meals, but on my way, everything changed. I saw my ex, Gita, riding a bike with a guy. Damnnnnnn!! I was falling to pieces. Moreover, my heart was destroyed when I realized that the guy is my friend, Arel.

“God! Why did you give me a life if it is unworthy?? It is better to die than living an unhappy life!”

Then, I did not want to eat anymore, so I kept riding my bike to spend that terrible night. I went to Jatilawang, and wanted to keep riding until Bumiayu. However, suddenly, “Gubrakkk!!”

I fell to the ground, and could not feel my left arm. Then, I passed out.

On the following day, I was awake in a hospital, and everything felt so painful. It was much more painful than seeing my friends with their girlfriends. At that time, I realized that girlfriend is not everything in life, and being single did not even matter to our lives. God had given plenty of things for me, included my health. I was so wrong that I thought God was not on my side.  

Movie Review

Room

Room is a 2015 Canadian movie that was directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by Emma Donoghue, based on her novel of the same name. The stars of this movie were Brie Larson as Joy, Jacob Tremblay as Jack, Joan Allen as Nancy, Sean Bridgers as Old Nick, and William H. Macy as Robert. This movie tells about a woman (Joy) and her 5-year-old son (Jack) that was held captive for seven years in an enclosed space by Old Nick. Finally, they gain their freedom. This movie alsso tells about the jack experience when he knows and adapts the outside world for the first time.

Joy 24 years old and her 5 years old son (Jack) live in a small place where they call Room. They share a bed, toilet, bathtub, television, and rudimentary kitchen. When jack woke up the fisrt time on five years old, he said to Jack “Mom… I am 5 years old”, “I was old”. Then, he did daily activities that he did it since long, like saying good morning to lamp, TV, plant, snake toys, carpet, and all. His mother said that they would make a brithday cake like in TV. However, that was the real of brithday cake. Why did they say real of brithday cake? Because, her boy did not know about the brithday ceke and all the things that exsit whitin TV it is not real.

The times to make brithday cake come, they made cake together until finish. Then, when the brithday cake finished, jack saw and said that the brithday cake was not real, because there was not candle. On this moment, Jack was angry to Joy, “why did not candle on brithday and why did you not request candle to the Old Nick”. If we show this part we could imagine that their life is so sad.

As you know, that jack lived on the Room sice he was born. So, they did not know about the world and he thought that there were not the other people on this world be sides he and her mother. However, jack thought more, if there were Old Man so in this world not just their and the world was big. Althought, Jack and Joy must debate to discuse something like, leaf was real or no, animal real or no and all things that Jack did not show, it would be discusion.

In this movie, Joy also had problem as long on the room. She did not only think how to answer the Jack question about the outside world. However, she also should give a sex service to Old Man every night when the Old Man came. On this time, Jack should sleep on cupboard because the bed was small. Sometimes Jack did not sleep yet, so he could hear the mother and Old Man activities. He also could saw the Old Man from cupboard.

As long 7 years waited moment and Jack was 5 years old, Joy thought that it was best time to go out from this room. So, Joy had a plane that Jack should be pretend as the people of death. Then, Joy Should rolling, jumping, runing, finding help to the fisrt people that he saw, that all was did when the car was slow. I am sure that this part will make the spectator sensation of pounding. Several hours ago, Joy got help from the people then, the people called the police oficer. So, police oficer take him and give some question, and I we just think that joy did so a good thing but full of risk.  You cloud image, five years old son just did mision imposible that making his past away. However what he did getting result, he and his mother got freedom.

Finaly, Joy could feel the world and know that the world was not small and what he saw on TV some of thing was real. However he was difficult to adaptation because as long on Room he just know the small room. Now, he live on Nancy as long grandmother, and he got good service on her house. Several times ago after he get freedom, the mom go into hospital, so he saw sad.

The plot is very well-organaized but the plot can not be guess. Altought, this film is arguably had two parts of the plot different, it is not just about to survive or freedom but also they adapt to the outside world. Both are equally intense. There was an explorationcomplex of how to main caracter look at the same world in the differetn ways. That makes the spectator embittered. The setting is also atraktive and studara also take adventage of the technical aspects. So the picture in such away with certain angle as well as a close-up make the impression that the small room it more widespread of seems.
